OK some of you may know I am going to be making my jato a mamba brushless system, and my question is, would it be better/easier/less costly, to build my own packs from single cells? I think it would save me some fundage, and make it so I can configure them to fit the truck better, but would it be just easier/better to buy packs or make them? I am going today to pick up the system, will get the batteries when I get some answers....lol And let me say, I wont be going lipo, to many little things to go wrong. standard nimih will do.

Either way works, making your own can save a little cash, but not as much as you think in the long run. If you buy ready made battery packs you should try to find sidexside packs vs. stick packs. They have a better amp discharge rate because of the bigger (less resistance) connectors used between the batteries, which is something you're going to find important with the brushless system. Stick packs use a little piece of basically foil between each battery and you can get some cogging, etc. from a brushless system when it can't find the amperage it needs. You can always buy the cheaper stick packs and break then down and rebuild as SxS too.

I dont know about it being easier to build packs. But yeah, it could save you a little bit of money if you do it right/get a great deal.

Cajun has built a few packs. I do not really enjoy it all that much.

Just say NO to Lipo   right?

Let us know what you decide and defintely let me know if you need some help putting packs together. I've done quite a few now, including breaking down stick packs and converting to SXS.
