Ok it's my turn to do a little rant here... Grin

I remember not long ago being able to book flights for like $120 per person... now it seems you can't find a round trip ticket for under $250 per person. I know it's not JUST gas prices that did this. I just had to drop over $700 Shocked for a 4 day vacation to Sanibel Island in October and that was by far the cheapest I found (it was with Airtran). The next closest would've been over $1k total. HEY-SEUSS!!!

The prices of cheap tickets are gone...more people in the air and less seat for them to book. The airline industry took a huge hit in 2001 to present trying to survive terrorist threats, weak US dollar, rising fuel cost, and employee contracts. I took a 35% decrease in pay after 911...the airline industry is again struggling due to fuel. So your getting screwed as a customer and I get screwed as an employee.

When I flew to Bolivia it was costing me over $1000. Price goes up, but the quality of the service goes down. Dirty planes, late flights, forgetting to feed us, etc.

Hell, IO got back into Miami and was delayed 6 hours because they didn't have the crew for the plane. You have the plane, you have the passengers, how do you forget the crew?

Tried to file a complaint, the phone just transfers you around until you get dropped, and the website for complains is always conviently down. Go figure.

I understand your frustrations...airlines also cut employees. They are running a very tight schedule and if one crew gets delayed or become illegal to work there goes your crew. FAA mandates we only can be on duty for 15hrs after that I'm going home...

My wife's trips to Hong Kong and China are now up to $24,000 for a round trip. She started off last year with a ticket price around $14,000, it was at $24,000 by fall. I really don't think it cost an additional $10,000 a trip to fly my wife back and forth to China. In my opinion the airlines are just gouging the general public. I think the major carriers are as bad as the damn oil companies, "woe is us", while raking in record profits, they're just better at hiding it than the oil dorks.

What would you think a fair price would be? Also correct me if I'm wrong but she flies First Class...you figure 8056 miles \ $24000  = about $2.97 per mile.  Ok that is high but round trip 16112\$24,000= $1.48 per mile.

You're right, she does fly first class, but so do 16 other people on the plane. Multiple her fare by 16. Then add in all the fares for the 200+ people on the wide body plane she has to fly over seas. What's the price per mile now that they're raking in on a single plane? You're making an arguement based on the assumtion she's the only passenger, if she were the only person on the plane, $1.48 a mile would be cheap.

$100,000,000 plane 150,000 lbs of fuel, 13+crew members, 3 pilots, maintanece, landing fees, catering, baggage ....at 650 mph @ 40,000'...what is it worth to you
