Although I have heard nothing but good things so far about TheBarnFloor R/C, I wanted you guys to be informed of this. I know there are a handful of us that know of or use TheBarnFloor. Hopefully just a strange coincidence. But better safe than sorry.

The best way to avoid any problems with fraud is to use a PayPal account. I appreciate what the RCM guys have witnessed, but I've talked to Christian several times at The Barn Floor and I'd be very surprised if this was something coming from them. They're a mom & pop business that has a store front and an RC track, so they'd stand to loose a lot from the kind of fraud they're talking about in that thread. I obviously can't defend them or say one thing or another, all I can do is relate my experiences with them. To date, they have all been very good, but I have never thrown my card number out there either, it's always been PayPal.

Yes, paypal is definately the way to go for me too.

Of course, even paypal has the haters....paypalsucks.com and I know Robin from UE pretty much despises paypal now and has dropped them from his site as a method of payment. He is kinda an odd fellow though anyway.

Based on what I've read there, the most I would expect BarnFloor to be involved is if their credit charges were hacked, similar to what happened to Hannaford's stores this week. The common thread being them makes that possible, but I seriously doubt the company themselves were responsible. That hardly ever happens, it's too easy to trace and carries a serious penalty.

That's what I'm thinking, they must have gotten hacked at some point and someone harvested CC numbers from their system.

Here is their reply to the threadstarter at RC Monster:

From the barnfloor...

Hi Chris,

We have contacted and spoke with our web hosting service provider. You are correct in that they have confirmed that a few of our customers' information has been leaked from their servers. So thank you very much for contacting us before this problem had happened to more of our customers. This is a very unfortunate situation and I am deeply sorry for the inconvenience and trouble caused as you should not have to deal with this type of problem.

They have their site administrators looking into the problem as we speak. We were assured by our host that all secure information is strictly confidential and unreadable by any 3rd parties. We now have decided to take more drastic measures of security into our own hands. We have since kept our programmers up all night encrypting all sensitive customer info stored on our site for past orders and future orders made, which is now complete. This makes all sensitive information scrambled and unreadable to any 3rd party.

The problem is now resolved as our encryption methods are now in place.

Again, we deeply apologize for this intrusion of your privacy.

Kind Regards,
Chris

Definately sounds like they are on the up and up. But still all good stuff to know and be aware of. Could you imagine what would happen to the company that took advantage of say Chris or Lee or Tom.....whoever???
