Dead, Dyed, DONE!!!

I finally remembered to pick up some Rit to Dye for my Wabash wheels.

This was my first time. I was thinking of other places to do the "dye-work" but I kept coming back to the kitchen as the best spot. I was pretty careful and moved everything out of the way as to not create any accidents waiting to happen.

You always remember your first   I wonder if other colors take that well.

How long did you soak ?

That is awesome looking! I dyed some white wheels on my ZX5 black too, they came out great. I've seen other colors done and it works good, but getting the right shade can be tricky.. black is pretty simple since you can't really over do it.

Here is a chart you can use to create custom colors. The next part is making sure you get the timing right, which can be a problem if you don't dye all pieces at the same time. I used a coat hanger to thread through the parts and hold them completely under so it would be an even finish.

I left mine under for about 10 minutes, seemed to have fully soaked the color up at that point. I've also heard that the color darkens as the plastic dries, so keep that in mind. Again for black it wasn't a concern because it can't really get too dark.

I like those wheels. Are they 23mm or 14mm? Did they come out really Black or what?

I have almost bought some wabash several times. I have had them saved in my Tower wish list for some time now. The only thing that stopped me was the dying. I know it's not tough to do, but it's one more step.

I guess I'm too lazy.

I was a little put off by it at first too, but it ended up being a really easy thing to do. I went to Walmart and bought the cheapest sauce pot I could find, got a really big one for like $4 - the dye will mark the pot so don't use a good one. It took about a half hour total, between heating the water, mixing the dye, letting the parts soak, and rinsing.

The wheels I got are the 23mm Wabash Mark. They make them in 17mm too. I am using black Dace adaptors with them like you have. They are by far my favorite style. I think I'm gonna try to dye a set Blood Red next time. These turned out fairly dark black.

I have a set of 23mm neon Velocity's too. Dont think the dye would take to them very well though. They are a fairly WIDE offset too (see pic).

I did my wheels in pairs because they are kinda big. I did a 20 minute soak each time. Didnt rinse and used zip-ties to remove them from the dye. And they do darken after they dry.

Thanks for the color chart Chris. It will come in handy if I can ever find the liquid Rit to mix with.

I'm going to attempt to dye my RPM chrome Slingshot wheels next. I'm gonna use orange dye OVER the chrome. Should look nice.

Thanks for the nice comments guys !!!

I re-created the first picture again. Be sure to check out my other chrome wheels that I just finished dyeing.
