Author Topic: Anyone ever use a Spektrum radio with XL5 esc?  (Read 318 times)

I can't get the XL5 to calibrate with the Spektrum radio.

1. Transmitter is on, esc is off.
2. Press power button on XL5 and hold it in.
3. Wait for green light, then red, then release the button on the xl5.
4. Red light flashes once.
5. Hold down throttle on transmitter.
6. Red light flashes twice.
7. Push throttle on transmitter to reverse position.

and then nothing. The light on the ESC stays off, as if it doesn't detect the radio signal in reverse. I can hold the throttle in reverse for minutes and nothing happens. Hold down the power button on the ESC to turn it off, then turn it back on. Throttle is adjusted correctly forward, only reaches about 30% reverse throttle. When the reverse throttle is fully engaged on the transmitter, the ESC light doesn't come on like it should at full range.

I turned up the end point adjustment on the transmitter to 125% and it still does the same thing. Any thoughts?

The Spektrum 18R problem is known, if you have an older one you might be able to get it to work. Anything newer that a couple of years old and it won't bind the esc to the Spek RX. I'm swapping my 18R over to a Dynamite ESC so I can run the Spek RX. That's about the only way to get around it apparently. Sounds like the XL5 is experiencing the same problem.

Well the odd thing is that it binds fine, and works except for reverse. I remember having the same problem when I tried to bind the Spektrum to my VXL, it wouldn't adjust in reverse properly. I eventually got it to work but I don't remember what I did. Smiley

Nevermind - I found it. It was the grip level a, which is used to adjust braking on the fly appearantly? It was set to 60% for some reason. Changed it to 100 and all works fine now!
