While I was in North Carolina last week I did some horse tradin' with Ruthless and found myself the proud owner of a new (to me) Schwinn Stingray chopper bicycle. I"ve been going to a lot of car shows with my dad, he has a '29 Ford Roadster, and I thought it might be fun to sort of redo it old school style and take it to the car shows and sport around. I have most of the mock up done with the exception of the headlight. I want to use a Farmall Cub headlight bucket and make it battery operated. I still need to disassemble the crankset and get it ready to refinish, and a few other things, but I thought I would go ahead and start the thread rolling. I'll keep it updated as I do more stuff to the bike.

Here's a few befores:

The freewheel before install:

One of the upper fork bolts was stripped, so I drilled them both out and taped them to accept 5/16" x 18 x 1" allen bolts.

Here's a before and after on the front forks. Left has glue removed and the chrome sanded to get rid of the rust and paint as well as give it a satin finish. There's more work to be done on both before paint.

With them preped and reinstalled in the triple trees:

The fork tube pinch bolts were rusted up so drilled and tapped the holes to accept some 1/4" x 20 bolts I had on hand and added stainless lock washers:

This is a shot of the forks with the "hwy pegs", I think I'm going to leave them off and weld up the holes. Then I'll paint the bottom third of the forks:

I'm using an old Arlen Ness light I use to have on my motorcycle for the tail light, I'm going to try and mod it to be battery operated as well as the headlight. The tail light poses the most challenge since it's as small as it is:

Here's the new rear wheel and tire after I trued and mounted them:

The front wheel came to me with a yellow hub. After a couple of coats of gloss black paint and a couple of days on my "drying rack" it was ready to pop on:

And the last pic for today, just for grins I put my 24" front under the rear fender and I'm pretty sure I can run a 24" tire/wheel combo in the rear and go to a 26" up front in place of the 24" x 20" it is stock. That's a while down the road though...

Ok, I got a few more things done. mostly bolt ons, and took a few more pictures.

I removed the pedal reflectors, who needs those, I replaced them with some much cooler skull hardware:

Same for the rear wheel reflector, we don't need no stinking reflectors! There again, some skull bling seemed better for the overall theme of the resto-mod:

The dice valve stem covers have rhinestones for the dots: :spank:

A Tektro brake lever replaced the original that was a little beat up. This shot also has a good close up of the grips installed:

Seat and seat post installed:

And a few overall shots:
