The Olymipic Peninsula is an amazing place, 6000+ foot mountains, rain forest, beaches all within 150 miles as the crow flies. We had a great time, the high temp while we were there was 63, I wanted to send for my dog and stay. We drove over 1200 miles while we were there and saw a ton of cool stuff, we explored the whole peninsula basically. Here are a few of the 500 shots we took during the week.

Cape Flattery on a rainy day. It's the NW most point in the contiguous 48:

Deer Park Camp Ground, up at about 6000ft above sea level. We were up in the clouds, it made for some stark views:

One of the giant spruce trees in the Hoh Rain Forest. You might recognize that guy we used to show the scale of the tree Cheesy :

The scale of everything in the rain forest was HUGE! Look at the size this blown down tree, looks normal in the first pic, then you see my wife next to it and realize you're looking at an 8'+ diameter tree:

Hurricane Ridge; it's the highest ridge line in the Olympic Range and Mt. Olympus is the tallest in the ridge line:

This is La Push out on the Pacific Coast. Large sea stacks and driftwood dominate the landscape here:

Rialto Beach...just incredible!

Look at the size of that driftwood log! There were signs all over the place about how dangerous logs were in the surf, but DAMN!

A huge cedar on 101 along Ruby Beach:

Ruby Beach along the west coast of the peninsula:

Ruby beach light house:

Ruby Beach Bald Eagle:

Worlds largest cedar tree! There's that scale again. Wink

I thought this was funny. Note who the Adopt-a-Highway "volunteers" are; Cheesy

Killer hot rod in the little town where we stayed:

If you ever get the chance to go up there, jump on it. Amazing place......the pictures don't do it justice.

If you want to see all 94 images I uploaded to Photobucket, you can see them here:

Enjoy!

Those are some incredible shots Lee !!!

Like you mention, "Look at the SIZE of that Driftwood!!!" Awesome.

There are a handful that would make nice screensavers.

Ya the hot rod is very cool. Glad someone else likes the micro bus. It is sweet with the kickin roof rack. Grin

I went out to Oregon about 10 years ago for work. Went to Mt. St. Helens one weekend. And went to the coast the other. I remember stopping to look at some giant Cedar tree. Probably the same one. Had little trees growing on the big trees branches about 50 feet up. Still remember how big all the trees where.

There were a bunch of buses, VWs in general, tons of em. There were lots of old cars all over the place.

Might be the same tree it certainly had other trees growing on it up at least that high. It was on Highway 101 on the west side of the peninsula, it was about 5 miles south of Ruby Beach. I grouped it with those photos because it was actually next to "Beach 2". Ruby Beach sounds nicer. Wink

We went out to the coast. All I can remember is Hay Stack rock. Was a huge rock a little off shore that looked like a Hay Stack. Not really sure where abouts it was. I was just along for the ride in the back seat. I should really pay more attention. At least that is what my wife tells me. Roll Eyes

Dude, there were more good RC spots than there are fat ladies in the cheese line. Cheesy

I wish it wasn't so expensive to ship RC safely, I'd have had one, I thought seriously about padding out a check bag and taking something, but I didn't. Then, what would you bring, my crawler is a logical choice, then so would be a fast mover with all the open space....so I did nothing but took pictures and come back home and drool. Cheesy
